It's high-fat story time! This week we invited Tina Potisk, founder of Pajs Brez Obresti, a low-carb/Keto online shop in Slovenia. She shared her journey into an LCHF diet and how this dietary and mindset change helped her gain control of her life, eliminating food cravings and overeating habits.
We hear so many stories of people who struggle to overcome emotional eating. If that's something you can relate to and you need inspiration, or if you just want to hear another story from a fellow LCHF follower, then this blog post is for you!
Hi Tina, tell us a bit about yourself and how you started Pajs Brez Obresti
I’m a 28-year-old girl, living in Maribor – Slovenia’s 2nd largest city who is making her dream come true by managing a KETO and LCHF specialized online store.
Basically, it all started when I was living abroad (Germany, Austria) and realized what a huge variety of KETO approved products the stores there have to offer! By then I was already full-on KETO/LCHF lifestyle and so I’ve made the decision to build a company which will provide Slovenia with healthy, innovative and easy-to-use KETO/LCHF/PALEO approved foods.
Awesome! It's sad we don't have many places like that here in The Netherlands either. Hopefully soon! But tell us, when and why did you switch to a high-fat, low-carb diet?
I used to practice tennis, but due to an injury, I had to quit, unfortunately. Along with missing the tennis, the main side effect of quitting was weight gain. It took me a while to realize I had a problem with emotional overeating, which was made worse every time I’d consume carbohydrates – especially when I was eating unhealthy, full of sugary sweets.
I didn’t feel good and I really wanted to change the way I look and feel. After doing some research, I’ve come across LCHF and soon made it my way of living.
What has changed in your life and body since then? What do you enjoy the most?
What hasn’t changed! I’ve lost 10 kg and am now maintaining my weight without any problems. Food cravings are a thing of the past, overeating also. I feel like food doesn’t control my life anymore, but rather I control it, I guess that’s the most important thing for me.
Alongside, I feel more energetic and have therefore managed to bring a positive change to all aspects of my life – all thanks to LCHF.
That's great you're saying this. Food should not take control of our lives. Living an LCHF lifestyle can be very liberating in that sense indeed.
Were there any challenges in the beginning or are there still any challenges for you? We can imagine it's not so easy to go from overeating on carbs to low-carb.
Once I’ve overcome the feeling of »missing out« the problems with adjusting to LCHF lifestyle have stopped. I think this is an obstacle for many people who are struggling with following this lifestyle. You have to realize you are not missing out on anything, but instead you are actually gaining more!
Exactly. You don't even have to miss out on burger or pizza, there are Keto burgers AND also Keto pizza!
And talking about food... can you give us a glimpse of what you usually eat in a day?
I like to keep things simple. My days start off early, and I usually start it with eggs and bread made out of our no-carb bread mixture. Because of its high fiber content, it keeps me full until my office lunch which consists of a salad, mozzarella and a piece of healthy meat.
Then comes evening, which is the perfect time for me to get creative in the kitchen! For dinner I usually experiment, trying out new ways of using Pajs brez obresti products, making sweets out of my favorite LCHF flours ...
And which high-fat goods do you always have in your pantry? The ultimate essentials.
Cheese, cheese, cheese! All kinds, always! And eggs, avocado, coconut milk – oh, and I can’t live without defatted macadamia flour!
You said you love to get creative in the kitchen... Do you have an all-time favorite recipe? That one you just could eat every day?
It’s actually made by my soon-to-be husband, does that still count? I love simple things and would almost literally kill for his stir-fried wok mixture of vegetables! With a piece of cheese and/or eggs, of course.
That sounds delicious. Simple always tastes better. Especially when made by the lover! ;)
Just out of curiosity, how big is Keto in Slovenia, do you see it growing in the near future?
I think more and more people are getting to know the benefits of following the KETO diet. I can see the community getting larger by the day and people getting more and more aware of what they’re putting in their bodies. There’s still a lot of work to be done though, that’s why I am all the time focusing on providing useful information, LCHF recipes for traditional Slovene dishes and, of course, providing the best of the best LCHF products.
We see that as well here in The Netherlands. It's great to be part of this beginning of Keto in Europe.
Now, to wrap up, tell us: what do you think of our Keto Cacao bars? Do you have a favorite flavor?
I simply LOVE them! I remember when I first tried them – my instant response was: THIS IS IT. They are all absolutely perfect, I couldn’t have asked for better ingredients in chocolate and the nutritional values are out of this world! My favorite flavor? Hazelnut.
Thank you again for sharing your story with us, Tina!
And let us know in the comment if you struggle or have struggled with emotional eating or your tips on how to overcome this difficult challenge! Super curious to hear your stories.
