Acacia fibre: you might have spotted it on an ingredients list before, but what exactly is it? This versatile soluble fibre comes from the Acacia tree and has found its way into all kinds of foods — including our Funky Fat Chocs. So, let’s give this quietly clever ingredient a little more attention.

What is Acacia Fibre and where does it come from?
Acacia fibre, also known as gum arabic, comes from the sap of certain species of the Acacia tree, which grow particularly in parts of Africa. The sap is collected and processed into an ingredient that can be used in a variety of foods.
Acacia fibre is a soluble dietary fibre. Fibre is a type of carbohydrate that isn’t fully digested by the human body in the same way as sugars and starches.
And one of the things that makes acacia fibre particularly interesting from a food perspective? Its relatively neutral taste. That makes it easy to work into recipes without stealing the spotlight from the flavours you actually came for.

Why is Acacia Fibre used in food?
Acacia fibre is one of those ingredients that can quietly do quite a lot behind the scenes. It has a long history of use in food and beverages and can be used for purposes including texture, stabilisation, binding and adding fibre to a recipe.
Because it has a relatively neutral flavour, it can also be incorporated into a recipe without completely changing its taste. That versatility is one of the reasons you’ll find it across different food categories.
Basically, it doesn’t need to be the loudest ingredient in the room to earn its place there.
Why do we use Acacia Fibre at Funky Fat Foods?
At Funky Fat Foods, every ingredient has to make sense in the recipe. We want chocolate that delivers on flavour and texture while fitting the way we choose to formulate our products.
Acacia fibre works particularly well for us because it can be incorporated into food without taking over the flavour. Because when you bite into chocolate, chocolate should still be the main event.
Did you know that our Funky Fat Chocs contain acacia fibre? It’s used as part of our MCT Oil Powder and is one of the ingredients working quietly behind every delicious square.
No dramatic ingredient story required. Just a clever ingredient that fits what we’re making.
Where can I find Acacia Fibre?
Acacia fibre is used in different foods and is also available on its own in powdered form. Thanks to its neutral taste and ability to dissolve in liquids, the powder can be mixed into drinks, soups, dressings or smoothies and can also be used in baked goods.
If you’re using acacia fibre powder at home, check the serving information on the product you buy, as fibre content and recommended serving sizes can differ between products.
Or, naturally, you can find it somewhere considerably more exciting: chocolate.
Our Funky Fat Chocs use acacia fibre as part of the recipe. We think that’s a pretty delicious place for it to be.
Is Acacia Fibre suitable for a low-carb or keto lifestyle?
Acacia fibre is a type of carbohydrate, but fibre isn’t digested in the same way as sugars and starches. When you’re following a particular low-carb or keto approach, what matters is the nutritional composition of the complete food and how it fits into the way you choose to eat.
That’s why we’d always suggest looking at the nutrition information on the actual product rather than judging it by one ingredient alone.
And yes, acacia fibre is one of the ingredients you’ll find in our Funky Fat products. We use it because it works with our recipes without getting between you and the chocolate. Priorities.
A little ingredient with a lot of versatility
Acacia fibre might not get the same attention as cacao, nuts or the other ingredients you immediately associate with chocolate, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting.
It’s a soluble dietary fibre with a neutral taste and plenty of versatility in food formulation — exactly the kind of ingredient we like having behind the scenes.
At Funky Fat Foods, we’d rather be transparent about what goes into our chocolate and why it’s there. Acacia fibre has its job. Cacao has its job. And your job? Enjoy the chocolate.
