7 Ideas to Add MCT Oil to Your Daily Meals

Are you following a keto /low carb lifestyle and are still unsure how to add MCT oil to your daily meals? Don’t worry, we spill the tea for you in this article, so take notes!

There is no specific way to take MCT oil, so today we want to give you 7 ideas to add MCT to your daily meals with which you can get creative in case you feel lost.

What is MCT oil?

MCT is short for Medium Chain Triglycerides. MCTs are medium-length triglycerides, which are a type of fat.

Most of the fats we eat are made from what are called long-chain fatty acids (LCTs). Long-chain fats are bulky and take time to be broken down in the body to fuel activity. However,  MCTs are saturated fats that are digested much faster, and therefore provide a quicker source of energy. When MCTs are consumed they go directly to the liver, where they’re rapidly digested and absorbed, or turned into ketones, which the body can use instead of carbohydrates for fuel.

MCT oil is extracted from food sources of MCTs, the most prevalent source being coconut oil.

MCT oil is frequently produced from coconut oil because it’s naturally high in MCTs, containing up to 54 percent. Coconut oil and MCT oil, however, do not offer the same benefits since MCT oil is a pure source of MCTs with a greater proportion of fast-digesting caprylic acid. However, coconut oil contains other fatty acids as well, making the proportion of MCTs in coconut oil less than in MCT oil. There are also 4 types of MCT Oils, each offering different benefits. Funky Fat Chocs combine MCTs C8 & C10 with Acacia Fiber to optimize both of these ingredients’ benefits.

7 ideas to add MCT oil to your daily basis

Now that we’re clear about MCT oil, what it is and how it works, let’s dive into the ways it can be used and added into your daily routine so you can stay in ketosis and reach your health goals.

1. Blend it in your smoothie or latte

Instead of having a regular breakfast to start your day, you can make yourself a keto-friendly smoothie or latte. By adding fiber and fat in the form of MCT oil to your morning beverage, you will be satisfied for hours. MCT oil will keep you satiated and will reduce food intake during the rest of the day while the fiber will help absorb all the benefits from each of the ingredients you add to it.

2. Prepare bulletproof coffee

If you’re a coffee lover and you’re on a keto diet, you’re going to love this one. A high-fat coffee also called bulletproof coffee is a combination of black brewed coffee, MCT oil, butter, or ghee. You can enjoy it hot or cold as well, depending on your preference. Another addition to it can be a keto creamer or collagen powder to boost its benefits even more.

This is a healthy carb-free and sugar-free way to kickstart your metabolism. Due to its fat content, keto coffee offers benefits such as increased nutritional ketosis, satiety, mental focus, and balanced blood sugar.

3. Snack on a keto-friendly with MCT oil snack

One of the easiest ways to consume MCTs is to eat a snack that contains them, whether it’s as a powder or in oil form. You can find both sweet and savory treats out there. Our favorite one is a good old classic, a piece of Funky Fat chocolate that already contains MCTs These chocolates will help you keep your random cravings at bay, they will fill you up, and will energize you whenever you need it, especially before a sweat session!

4. Mix it with your salad dressing

Usually, dressings are where salads sometimes go wrong and turn into an unhealthy meal. The best you can do is always make your own salad dressing at home using clean low-carb and high-fat ingredients. To further boost your intake, add some MCT oil to them. MCT oil has no taste or smell, therefore, it’s a great way to add fats to your salad dressing that will help to absorb the nutrients from the greens of your green leafy vegetables.

5. Consume MCTs before a workout

MCT molecules are smaller and they travel fast to your cells to provide you with immediate energy. This makes MCTs an excellent supplement that enables you to power through your workouts. They can increase your endurance no matter the exercise you’re doing.

The best time to take MCT oil is 30 to 45 minutes before your workout session.

6. Use it while doing intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting (IF) is a powerful tool for boosting fat loss. However, it can be hard when trying it for the first time. You can expect hunger and be low on energy. If you take MCT oil while fasting, it will help you stay energized without getting kicked out of ketosis because you’ll be consuming fats only. MCTs also convert into ketones as fats are being broken down.

When you’re fasting it’s best if you only limit yourself to 1 or 2 teaspoons of MCT oil. This dosage should be enough to keep your energy up and maintain or reach ketosis.

7. Cook with it

Did you know that you can use your MCT oil to cook? It’s a great way to add it to your food without noticing. One thing you must know is that it can only be used for low to mid-temperature. Going beyond its smoke point will reduce its impact. You can also drizzle the oil over your food as soon as it’s cooked, right before serving it, so you make sure your oil has its benefits.

You can also drizzle it over your salads, low-carb pasta, and basically any meal you’d drizzle olive oil on. MCT oil, like olive oil, adds extra fat to your plate to make it more delicious and satiating. Also, MCT oil is known to increase the amounts of leptin and peptide YY. These proteins naturally promote a feeling of fullness and help you feel satiated. This means you may consume fewer calories throughout the day.

MCT oil will help you stay or reach ketosis and if you make it a part of your daily life, you’ll stay energized and in a fat-burning mode while following a ketogenic diet.

MCT can be consumed alone or added to your meals and beverages to make them more nutritious. You have the option as well to buy some keto snacks with MCTs in it if that’s more convenient for you. You have a lot of choices!
